Training
From the puppy just starting out to the experienced bird dog, we can train your dog. Whether you want your dog to compete in field trials or want a hunting buddy, we will gladly evaluate him and work to develop his skills in the field.
Puppies
Even a young bird dog knows that birds are fun and we can develop that inborn talent into a fine bird dog. We will teach your pup necessary commands such as Here and Whoa, among other things, and hone that talent into a successful trial dog or a well trained hunting buddy. They will be exposed to the ATV, the horses and even gunfire in a manner so they do not develop fear but understand those are necessary to their job. We believe that proper timing and proper use of gunfire will cause your pup to understand that the loud bang just goes along with bird work, and they won't become gunshy, as well as not fearing other noises such as the ATV.
Advanced Training
Advanced training is the natural progression from pointing and chasing birds to the maturity of standing on point through the gunshot. If your dog is going on to compete in field trials, he will learn to hold his point without moving until released by his handler. Your dog will also learn to wear an e-collar and not fear the correction when needed.
The retrieve is also necessary for a mature field trialer. If your dog is not going to compete, the retrieve is optional.
Forced Fetch
Sometimes a bird dog just is not a natural retriever. We can teach your dog that he must retrieve whatever he is sent to pick up and bring back to the handler.
This is certainly optional and can be discussed if needed.
